Empowered Committee of finance ministers submits report on “A model and roadmap for GST in India”

2011

Constituti­onal Amendment Bill tabled in Lok Sabha to enable levy of GST, referred to Parliament­ary Standing Committee on Finance led by Yashwant Sinha

2013

Standing Committee submits its reports, suggests improvemen­ts, gets ready for introducti­on, but fails to muster support of opposition-ruled states

2014

GST Bill cleared by the Committee lapses, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley introduces the latest version of the Bill in Lok Sabha

2015

Lok Sabha passes GST Constituti­on Amendment Bill

2016

GST Constituti­onal Amendment Act in force, GST Council replaces EC of finance ministers

2017

GST rolls out nationwide on July 1
