For those of us who struggle for storage space on the smartphone every now and then, the recently launched Files Go app by Google brings good news. The app’s neat user interface is divided into two tabs – storage and files. The storage page displays how much free space is left on your phone and SD card. It is followed by smart recommendations of files that can be removed from the device.

Instead of looking for individual files and videos, the app segregated duplicate files, downloaded files, large files and more, in various folders specifying the file size. And this is extremely helpful. Just by deleting the duplicate file folder, I ended up freeing up 11.99GBofGBof space on my phone. There is also an option to delete the entire folder or to delete select individual files.

Files Go also suggests cleaning app cache that stores temporary files from various apps. The files tab, on the other hand, segregates files in various folders – downloads, received files, apps, images, videos, audio and documents. The best part is that images and videos are further categorised on the basis of app sources – camera, 9GAG, Instagram, WhatsApp and others. You can also transfer files to an SD card to free up your phone’s storage from the app itself.

This app can also create a secure hotspot using which two Files Go users can securely send and receive files without internet connectivity. The app, available only for Android users, is free to download. Unlike other free apps, it doesn’t have pop-ups or other distractions.
