Govt Drops R 32,000 Cr MCMV Project

The Ministry of Defence has scrapped the ` 32,000 crore project for building 12 advanced mine counter-measure vessels (MCMVs) or minesweepers. The project, to be carried out by Goa Shipyard Ltd in collaboration with South Korea-based Kangnam Corporation, fell through due to ‘commercial complications’. Advanced minesweepers can track and destroy underwater mines, and the Indian Navy requires them on a priority basis.
