ALPHABET QUARTERLY PROFIT RISES 84%

Google parent Alphabet made $9.4 billion in profit in the first three months of 2018, up 84 per cent from $5.4 billion a year ago, largely helped by Google’s ad sales. This removes worries that investments in new ventures beyond its core business of search is undermining the outlook for the company.
