WHAT MAKES IT COOL Unnati Agri innovatively combines commerce, financing, and technology to empower the agricultural ecosystem for sustainable growth and environmental impact
established in 2017, Unnati Agri aims to revolutionise agriculture by comprehensively uplifting the farming community. Co-founders Ashok Prasad and Amit Sinha, pioneers in digitising agriculture since 2010, envisioned a platform that would empower farmers, agri-input retailers, output traders, and brands. Realising the vital role of local retailers in disseminating knowledge to farmers, the founders recognised that there is an urgent need to address the issue of access in rural areas.
Growing up in rural settings, Prasad and Sinha knew that the only way to do this would be to transform their knowledge-driven CRM platform into a comprehensive commerce and financing solution. Thus, Unnati Agri was born. It has positively impacted 1.2 million farmers through a network of 60,000-plus partners across regions and 380 districts. Unnati’s unique approach empowers intermediaries by training agri-input retailers and output traders to become digitally equipped.
Sinha emphasises Unnati’s focus on digitising intermediaries to enhance services for farmers, through cutting-edge technology. The company—which posted revenue of `397 crore and net loss of `14 crore in FY22, as per the company—predicts agri-input demand patterns, sharing over a million pieces of knowledge with farmers monthly. Unnati’s financing arm also addresses farm financing needs by extending credit through a unique cash-flow-based model, ensuring even landless farmers can get access to capital for relevant farming needs.
