Celebrating AI From home appliances to cars, companies across the board have embraced AI at CES 2024
AT CES 2024, the most-awaited consumer technology show of the year, artificial intelligence (AI) was everywhere. From major tech conglomerates to numerous innovative start-ups, all those who congregated at the Las Vegas event had AI on their lips.
Take South Korean conglomerate Samsung, for instance. The technology giant unveiled its ‘AI for All’ vision, which entails using AI to make the connected device experience safer, more inclusive, and more energy-efficient. From a TV whose AI-enabled processor automatically upscales low-resolution content to provide users with up to 8K quality viewing experience to rolling AI robot Ballie, to an intelligent refrigerator that uses an internal camera to recognise up to 33 different food items and suggests recipes using those ingredients, AI was at work everywhere.
Moving out of homes, German auto major Volkswagen showcased its first vehicles with Generative AI chatbot ChatGPT integrated into its IDA voice assistant. This will help customers get seamless access to the growing AI database in all models equipped with the IDA voice assistant.
Meanwhile, processor major Intel brought AI to the heart of the vehicle. It announced a new family of AI-enhanced software-defined processors (also called system-on-chips or SoCs) for vehicles. And luxury electric vehicles (EV) brand Zeekr is the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to adopt the new SoC to deliver its generative AI-driven experiences to its next-generation EVs. Intel also announced plans to acquire Silicon Mobility, a fabless silicon and software company headquartered in France’s Sophia Antipolis, that specialises in SoCs for intelligent EV energy management.
On the enterprise side, Siemens and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have partnered to make it easier for businesses of all sizes and industries to build and scale generative AI applications. For this, Siemens is integrating Amazon Bedrock— a service that offers a choice of high-performing foundation models from leading AI companies via a single API, along with security, privacy, and responsible AI capabilities—with Mendix, its leading low-code platform that is part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
All in all, CES 2024 turned out to be a celebration of all things AI.
