25hours Hotel Frankfurt The Goldman

-

BACKGROUND 25hours Hotels by Accor-Hotels are open across five cities in Europe with eight hotels. It’s positioned as a contemporary and unique hospitality concept targeted at the millennial urban traveller. These design-oriented boutique properties are open in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin, Zurich and Vienna and will soon arrive in Munich, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Paris. I experienced 25hours Hotel Frankfurt The Goldman that opened in December 2006 with 49 rooms. It has expanded with the purchase of a building next door (East sector) that has added another 48 rooms. In September 2015, the West sector underwent a revamp.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? This 97room hotel has a contemporary decor. Frankfurt-based artists Michael Dreher and Delphine Buhro had originally designed the East and West sector of the hotel quite differently. After the renovation, East and West wings bear more unified aesthetics in terms of fixtures and fittings. Both the seven-floor buildings are painted in vibrant turquoise and orange. Each floor is decorated in alternative colour themes — such as brown, green, blue, orange, grey, gold and purple. The blue LED frontage on the reception is unmissable. Posters and paintings cover the corridors and quirky art installations take you by surprise. It is evident that the hotel aims at a younger audience, however it was buzzing with business travellers too.

WHERE IS IT? Frankfurt airport is about 20km away. It is located on Hanauer Landstrasse in Frankfurt’s Eastside, close to the new European Central Bank headquarters. Tram number 11 can be accessed outside the hotel. The Ostbanh of subway station is close by.

ROOM FACILITIES Each room in the West sector of the hotel is named after a renowned personality who’s positively influenced the society. Room types are M Rooms West (22 sqm), M Rooms East (22 sqm) and L Rooms East (28 sqm).

I was staying in M Room West on the 7th floor that overlooked the main-road. My room featured a queen-size bed, UE Boom Bluetooth speaker, airconditioning, a walk-in shower and free wifi. The slightly bigger L Rooms East have a kingsize bed, a tea/coffee maker and a lounger.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS I had breakfast at Oost Bar where the spread was basic but enough. It turns into a lively bar in the evening — an interesting place for an informal meeting. The choice of wine is commendable. Goldman Restaurant serves dishes with a Mediterranean influence.

MEETING FACILITIES Oost Bar can be used for receptions with standing room for up to 80 people. There are two dedicated event rooms — Freiraum (80 sqm) that can accommodate up to 20 delegates and Living Room (48 sqm) that can fit up to 30 persons. The first floor has a roof terrace that can be used for informal get-togethers.

LEISURE FACILITIES Guests can use fitness and wellness facilities at the close by Fitness First by paying a small fee. Schindelhauer bikes are available for rent and the hotel offers free of charge MINI cars for rent upon availability.

VERDICT It’s an interesting choice if you’re looking to take a break from big hotel chains. The property has immense character and the rooms are functional.
