Taj Dubai

Business Traveller (India) - - DESTINATIONS -

BACKGROUND Part of the Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris’ portfolio, Taj is the Indian hospitality group’s luxury brand in the UAE.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? On entering the property, you walk into a living-room styled lobby. Individual work desks are manned by receptionists. To the right are lifts that go up the rooms. To the left is another sofa seating area and a display cabinet with heritage items from the UAE and from India. Keeping in step with Indian hospitality, guests are greeted with a sandalwood-bead necklace and a dot of sandalwood paste on the forehead.

WHERE IS IT? It is located in the Burj Khalifa precinct, a five-minute drive from the Dubai Mall. Dubai International Airport is at a distance of 15km from the property.

ROOMS We stayed in the Luxury Junior Suite and were welcomed into the room with marigold flower arrangements on the floor. The living room and the bedroom are separated by a jali mesh. A basket with assorted fruit was arranged on the coffee table. The minibar with a coffee machine is neatly placed inside a wooden cabinet with other edibles and wine glasses. Since the work desk tucked into the corner faces the wall, I preferred to work at the four-seater dining table in the middle of the living room that has two large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city below. The bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub is equipped with Molton Brown toiletries. The walk-in closet is big enough to hold a single bed, and has two large luggage racks on either side.

FOOD AND DRINK Tesoro is where the extensive breakfast buffet is spread out. Authentic Indian cuisine is served in Bombay Brasserie. Miss Tess is an Asian street-food restaurant concept with flavours from China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. For a drink or two, head to the rooftop Treehouse, The Eloquent Elephant gastro pub or the art deco-style Byzantium Lounge.

MEETINGS Both meeting rooms have a maximum capacity for 20 people. The boardroom can hold up to ten delegates. For larger groups, there is the ballroom and outdoor pool deck with capacities for 320 and 120 people respectively. The prefunction area can hold 120 people. LEISURE This property has Taj’s Jiva Spa with a range of treatments. There is one large outdoor swimming pool. The gym is fitted with TRX equipment.

VERDICT Service at the property is impeccable, with the staff going out of their way to fulfill your demands. Its location and in-room amenities make it ideal for the business traveller. Neha Gupta Kapoor
