BACKGROUND Grand Hyatt Tokyo opened in 2003 as part of Roppongi Hills, one of the largest redevelopment projects in Tokyo. The hotel is owned by Mori Building Corporation and operated by Hyatt Hotels Corporation. It enjoys pride of place in one of the world’s most prestigious mixed-use complexes.

WHAT’S IT LIKE Given the beautiful lifestyle-meets-business vibe of the neighbourhood, the hotel has been designed with the very same feeling. As soon as I set foot into its cavernous lobby, I am impressed by the muted tones and soothing aesthetic of the space, with an almost “residential” atmosphere. The rooms are, of course, done in the very same vein, with high levels of functionality mixed with the soft touches of Japanese culture. The overall space is dotted with a lot of gorgeous artwork, adding to the charm of the hotel.

WHERE IS IT The hotel is situated at the heart of Roppongi Hills and is in close proximity to restaurants, bars, cinemas, shops and o†ice buildings. The city’s famed Ginza district is 15 minutes away by subway and Narita International Airport is 90 minutes away. Roppongi subway station is a few minutes’ walk from the hotel ROOM FACILITIES The hotel boasts 387 rooms across its 21 floors and di†erent categories. I felt a sense of calm and comfort in my room thanks to its beautiful, understated design. The decor is characterised by natural wood and pastel fabrics, thereby giving a very homely feel. My room came with a comfortable king-size bed and luscious bed linen by Frette. The room featured a large flat screen TV, a generous work desk, a portable speaker and a touch panel to control lighting. I absolutely loved the spacious bathroom with a large, fastfilling tub and separate shower area.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS The hotel has a huge F&B o†ering and boasts no more than 10 restaurants and bars, which are popular not only with in-house guests, but also with Tokyo locals, who walk in for a meal or a drink. I absolutely loved my meal at the Japanese eatery Shunbou, where I enjoyed a multi-course kaiseki, traditional Japanese meal, with a strong focus on fresh produce. Don’t forget to try the sushispeciality restaurant Roku Roku and The Oak Door, a modern steakhouse, which boasts a 300-strong wine list. The Chinese, Italian and French restaurants are also worth a try.

MEETING FACILITIES Grand Hyatt Tokyo boasts an impressive MICE o†ering, with 16 event spaces and six meeting rooms, which can be configured di†erently for di†erent kinds of events, thereby making it one of Tokyo’s preferred MICE addresses. Interestingly, three levels of the hotel, between the 2nd and the 4th level are dedicated to its banquet facilities connected by a beautiful spiral staircase.

LEISURE FACILITIES I spent my evenings on the hotel’s 5th floor, where the Nagoma Spa and Fitness can be found. This includes a fitness centre — very wellequipped — and a swimming pool. The spa o†ers all kinds of relaxing therapies and treatments. There is also one Vichy wet treatment room and a couple’s treatment suite with a sunken bath.

VERDICT A luxurious business hotel in the truest sense of the term, packed with amenities, well-situated, great ambience and impeccable service. Not to mention the great MICE facilities!
