London Marriott Hotel Park Lane

- Ravi Lalwani

BACKGROUND Dating back to 1919, this stylish luxury hotel, which is across Hyde Park, and is run by Marriott International. The hotel was renovated in 2015, and was transformed to cater to the needs of all business travellers.

WHAT’S IT LIKE The hotel is situated in a grand 19th-century heritage building. Its public areas are adorned with contemporary wall art (throughout the property), while the gold detailing and interiors are done in soft neutral tones like white, grey and lavender. Other touches of leather, wood, silk and marble give the feel of a luxury apartment.

WHERE IS IT The hotel is situated in London’s upscale district of Mayfair, and in close proximity to attractions such as Hyde Park, Marble Arch and the West End.

ROOMS London Marriott Park Lane offers 152 luxurious residential-style accommodation options that come in four categories of room — deluxe, grand deluxe, superior and executive, and three types of suites — executive, family and premier. I stayed in a deluxe room featuring beautiful thick carpets, plush cushions, fitted with amenities including comfortable bedding, spacious work desk, Floris toiletries in marble bathrooms, and interesting British artwork on display.

In terms of technology, the revamped hotel offˆers the state-of-the art amenties such as a mobile check-in service.

FOOD & DRINKS If you are looking to enjoy the best of seasonal British cuisine then head to Lanes of London Restaurant and Bar, which gives a classic London vibe. This all-day dining offˆers full English breakfast from GBP 16/ INR 1,447 serving anything from croissants to porridge. For lunch and dinner, I opted for the British a-la-carte menu including appetiser, salad and main course. I really enjoyed the Tuna steak, which was well-cooked and flavourful. I also enjoyed their Sunday Roast offˆering that includes beef striploin accompanied by crispy potatoes and the traditional Yorkshire pudding, which was light and airy. The bar menu has a lot of local craft beers from Camden Brewery and spirits from Hammersmith’s Sipsmith distillery. Tea lovers can stop for an afternoon tea. Business travellers in a group can opt for a ‘Group Dining’ service in a private dining room or can hire their entire restaurant and rooftop to host exclusive events.

MEETINGS AND BANQUET FACILITIES The hotel prides itself on its MICE venues. It is a perfect destination for small corporate and social gatherings, with its three versatile venues covering a total of 120 sq m of space.

LEISURE The Club at Park Lane comes with a state-of-the-art gym and pool as well as a bespoke massage treatment room. There is also a luxurious Executive Lounge where you can either relax or host business meetings.

VERDICT Even after the refurbishment, the hotel has retained its old-world charm, making it an iconic hotel in central London.
