SRI LANKA EXPECTS TWO MILLION VISITORS IN 2019
THE CONSUL GENERAL OF SRI LANKA in association with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau recently hosted an event in Mumbai discussing the government’s strategies on boosting the island nation’s tourism following the deadly Easter attacks in April 2019.
According to them:
• ere has been a 70 per cent decline in tourism in the month of May.
• e hospitality market in Sri Lanka has also been hit and luxury hotels have reduced their prices by 50 per cent.
• India is the biggest source market for the country. Indians on an average spend US$1,000 to 2,000 per visit. • New marketing strategies, aggressive promotional campaigns, fresh discounts, especially for Indian tourists and other celebratory events are aimed at reviving the tourism industry.
• ere are ve tour packages to Sri Lanka that cover destinations such as Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Sigiriya and South Coast. ese o ers will be valid for stays until September 30, 2019 and can be availed through the travel agent network in India.
