The Eau Bar

-

My Friday sundowner ritual took me to The Eau Bar at The Oberoi, Mumbai recently. Perched on Marine Drive’s glitzy Queen’s Necklace, the space has undergone an exquisite transformation; and now features Art-Deco-inspired elements that sway in harmony against the striking Marine Drive backdrop. Not to forget, the dramatic bull installation by sculptor Valay Shende that celebrates the spirit of Mumbai.

Although, what also caught my attention was the breezy outdoor deck o ering unparalleled views of the sea. Let me just say, it was a sight to behold! So, after getting that perfect sunset shot, I went on to check the cocktail menu curated by UK-based mixologist Andrew Pearson. The menu has a special section called ‘Cocktails through the Eras’ that traces the history of drinks from the 1800s to the present times.

To begin with, I had Ocean View Fizz concocted with champagne and guava juice. In terms of flavours, the refreshing cocktail was thoughtfully balanced with each individual component playing its part well. Next on our table was Marine Drive, paying an ode to the ‘city of dreams.’ The drink was an amalgamation of turmeric gin, saline solutions and orange bitters. The turmeric gin was a relief to my relatively sore throat.

Adding to the cocktails is executive Chef Satbir Bakshi’s small plates recipes. The rava bombil (Bombay duck) fry served with coconut, mint chutney and grilled lemon is an absolute delight. Seafood lovers must also try the carpaccio comprising yellowtail, salmon, tuna, scallops and caviar. Vegetarians can opt for black rice maki and chargrilled broccoli.

VERDICT Ideal Mumbai hotspot for sunset cocktails.
