GALLERY OF MODERN HUNGARIAN ART
Gallery of Modern Hungarian Art exhibits masterpieces and art from 1850 across several oors. e works displayed are from impressionist paintings to visually striking and unconventional contemporary installations. It is recommended that art a cionados pay special attention to the iconic works of Simon Hollósy, József Rippl-Rónai and Ödön Már y. More abstract and constructionist artists in the gallery include András Mengyár, Tamás Hencze, Béla Uitz and Gábor Dienes.
KIRÁLY STREET
Király Street is renowned as Pécs’ most beautiful pedestrian street. is colourful place is lined with shops and restaurants. e buildings steeped in history and culture represent the nest examples of Baroque design and architecture in the city. Iconic landmarks such as e Pecs National eatre and the historical Palatinus Hotel, etc are on this street which is the epicentre of restaurants, cafes, and little shops. It is also a great place for those who enjoy pleasant walks, to soak in local heritage.
PÉCS CATHEDRAL
e foundations of the cathedral were laid in the 11th century, and the presentday look of the cathedral was achieved at the end of the 19th century based on Frigyes Schmidt’s design. e organ in the cathedral is the 100th masterpiece of organ maker József Angster. e building of the third cathedral started at the end of the 11th century and a ve-nave subterranean church was built above an early Christian shrine, in the northeast direction of the present-day dome, containing the grave or relics of an early Christian martyr. In 2018 the interiors of the cathedral were renovated with sound and lighting systems, modernised church pews, and district heating that was installed in the cathedral.
