Mercedes Diesel Plug-in Hybrid
Mercedes -Ben zhave confirmed a new diese lelectric plug-in hybrid is in the pipeline. The powertrain is based on the OM654 diesel engine and an externally chargeable hybrid system.
The new hybrid technology is based on the thirdgeneration plug-in hybrids first seen in the S 560 e shown last year in Frankfurt. It will see the fourcylinder turbo-diesel engine paired with 90 kW (122 PS) and 440 Nm of electric output. With a larger 13.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it has an intended pure electric range of about 50 km. The new onboard charger increases charging capacity to 7.2 kW, twice as much as earlier, which means a full charge from the wallbox in about two hours; with a domestic socket taking seven hours.
Power delivery is taken care of by the latest 9G-Tronic hybrid automatic transmission. The drive system also benefits from a further improved intelligent drive management which can use data from the navigation system, radar sensor, and camera to look ahead and adapt itself to the speed and route profile. The new drivetrain could well arrive in the new C-Class.
