Sagarmala project is growth engine for ports
Port-led development has taken place under Sagarmala project in a big way, said Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Port and Shipping, while addressing the media recently. The minister said the government has spent
99,000 crore for the project and took up 215 projects under the Sagarmala project. He said the projects are likely to be completed by 2035. “All the major ports have been performing well and the cargo handling has reached to 105 Union Minister for Port and Shipping MT at present. Modernization hadGovernment of India been taken up in all the major ports in the country using latest technology,” Sonowal said. The project was taken up for fast development in the country, the minister claimed. Sonowal also reviewed the ongoing projects at the Visakhapatnam Port and said it would become one of the best ports in the world.
