SAS NAGAR: Vigilance department nabbed a patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 in a raid on Tuesday night.

The arrested Patwari has been identified as Rakesh Kumar of Mullanpur. The raid was conducted on complaint of Ram Krishan Sharma a resident of Kansal, who alleged that Kumar had demanded a bribe for rectifying mistake in the revenue records. Sharma said that he owned a plot in Shivalik Vihar in Nayagoan but the new records were only showing 5.5 marlas in his name. Sharma had then approached the patwari about a month back, for rectifying the same, who assured him of doing so only if he pays Rs 5000 as bribe.

Sharma paid him Rs 1000 but later the Patwari approached him saying that the work is almost done but he will have to pay Rs 20,000 more. He has been booked under the prevention of corruption act.
