Election commission suspends headmistress
LUDHIANA: The Election Commission of India has sent orders to the state principal education secretary and district education officer (secondary) to suspend Surinder Kaur Dyal, headmistress of Government High School, Khandoor.
The ECI had received several complaints against Dyal that being a government official, she was allegedly favouring some candidate in the assembly elections.
Following the complaints, the ECI on January 20 sent directions to the DEO to conduct an inquiry and send a report as soon as possible.
Sources said Dyal had requested the district education department on January 21 to grant her pre-mature retirement for the next three months. However, the department rejected her request.
The DEO sent the inquiry report to the ECI on January 23. Thereafter, the ECI sent orders on Thursday to the DEO to transfer Dyal to Government Hight School, Bathinda, and she was transferred as per the orders.
However, on Friday, the DEO received orders to suspend Dyal.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Sudesh Bajaj, DEO (secondary), confirmed that Dyal had been suspended as per the orders received from the ECI.
