IUPAC meet­ing Com­mit­tee on Chem­istry and In­dus­try

Tit­u­lar Mem­bers’ of “IUPAC Com­mit­tee met re­cently for a Chem­istry and In­dus­try” (IUPAC COCI) in Bratislava, Slo­vakia. From In­dia, Dr. B. Saha, Di­rec­tor of R&D, L R Re­search Lab­o­ra­to­ries Pvt Ltd, NACL In­dus­tries Ltd, (for­merly known as Na­gar­juna Agrichem Ltd), Hy­der­abad at­tended the meet­ing. He is the Tit­u­lar Mem­ber of IUPAC “Com­mit­tee on Chem­istry and In­dus­try”, Na­tional Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of In­dia in IUPAC Divi­sion of “Chem­istry and the En­vi­ron­ment” and As­so­ci­ate mem­ber of IUPAC In­ter-Di­vi­sional Com­mit­tee on Green Chem­istry for Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment. There were a num­ber of in­ter­est­ing pre­sen­ta­tions on devel­op­ment of green chem­i­cal tech­nol­ogy, biomass en­ergy and chem­i­cals, ESH and Re­spon­si­ble Care. 70 par­tic­i­pants from dif­fer­ent coun­tries at­tended the work­shop.

Dr. B. Saha made a de­tailed pre­sen­ta­tion on “Sus­tain­abil­ity and Re­spon­si­ble Care”, with special em­pha­sis on the In­dian sit­u­a­tion. Start­ing from his­tory of Re­spon­si­ble care from 1980s, he dis­cussed about the global sit­u­a­tion. Af­ter re­view­ing the sta­tus of In­dian chem­i­cal in­dus­try, he made pre­sen­ta­tion on “Re­spon­si­ble Care in In­dia”. He said that till now there are 140 sig­na­to­ries to RC in In­dia and 50 com­pa­nies have been per­mit­ted to use RC logo. Dr. Saha also in­formed about the sta­tus of SAICM in In­dia. He also dis­cussed in de­tail about the “Na­tional Chem­i­cal Pol­icy of In­dia”
