Nu­berg EPC awarded chlor al­kali and cal­cium chlo­ride pro­ject in Saudi Ara­bia

EPC was awarded a $ 53 mil­lion turnkey pro­ject con­tract by Mid­dle East Chem­i­cals Com­pany Ltd. (Mid­chem), Saudi Ara­bia. The ex­clu­sive agree­ment cov­ers EPC & LSTK ser­vices and so­lu­tions for chlor al­kali plant and cal­cium chlo­ride plant in Riyadh, Saudi Ara­bia and will be ex­e­cuted for Saudi Fac­tory for Chlo­rine and Al­ka­lies (SACHLO), Mid­chem’s group com­pany. The pro­duc­tion ca­pac­ity will be 60 tpd for chlor al­kali plant which is an ex­pan­sion of its pre­vi­ous plant of 60 TPD mak­ing it a to­tal of 120 TPD, and 150 TPD for cal­cium chlo­ride plant.

Chem­i­cals pro­duced in the fa­cil­ity will serve the needs of down­stream and petro­chem­i­cal, hy­dro­car­bon and en­ergy in­dus­try in the do­mes­tic Saudi mar­ket as well as the Mid­dle East & Africa (MEA) and Gulf Co­op­er­a­tion Coun­cil (GCC) re­gion.

The chem­i­cal pro­ject is Mid­chem’s sec­ond al­liance with Nu­berg EPC af­ter suc­cess­ful com­mis­sion­ing of its 60 tpd green­field chlor al­kali plant de­signed and de­liv­ered for SACHLO in 2012.

Nu­berg EPC’s scope of ser­vices for this pro­ject in­cludes process, tech­nol­ogy know-how, ba­sic and de­tailed en­gi­neer­ing, de­sign, pro­cure­ment, man­u­fac­ture and sup­ply of plant equip­ment in­clud­ing com­plete erec­tion, con­struc­tion, pro­ject man­age­ment, com­mis­sion­ing and start-up of the plant.

The chlor al­kali plant will de­ploy bipo­lar mem­brane cell tech­nol­ogy pro­vided by Inovyn (erst­while INEOS tech­nolo­gies), tech­nol­ogy li­cen­sor for the ex­pan­sion plant. Inovyn which is a UK based tech­nol­ogy sup­plier with over 50 years of ex­pe­ri­ence has pre­vi­ously col­lab­o­rated with Nu­berg EPC for Mid­chem’s 60 TPD chlor al­kali plant com­mis­sioned in 2012. For cal­cium chlo­ride plant, Nu­berg EPC will part­ner with Rus­sia based tech­nol­ogy li­cen­sor Zi­rax which is a re­puted global cal­cium chlo­ride tech­nol­ogy provider. Zi­rax will trans­fer tech­nol­ogy for pro­duc­tion of liq­uid & an­hy­drous prod­uct.
