INEOS To Built World’s Largest Phenol Pro­duc­tion Unit Along With world-scale Propane De­hy­dro­gena­tion unit

INEOS Phenol the largest pro­ducer of Phenol and Ace­tone in the world have an­nounced that it is plan­ning to ex­pand the ca­pac­ity of its plant in Mo­bile, Alabama (US) up to 850,000 tonnes a year, mak­ing it the largest phenol pro­duc­tion unit in the world. This will en­sure their an­tic­i­pated growth in de­mand and will show a clear com­mit­ment to their cus­tomers to meet their longterm needs in North Amer­ica.

Tak­ing this am­bi­tions plan a step for­ward, INEOS also an­nounced their plans to con­struct a world-scale Propane De­hy­dro­gena­tion unit (PDH), to­gether with the first Gas Cracker.

INEOS has se­lected McDer­mott’s Lum­mus CATOFIN Tech­nol­ogy as the op­er­at­ing tech­nol­ogy

® for its planned PDH unit and a Li­cense Agree­ment has now been signed. In par­al­lel, an­other agree­ment has been signed with Clari­ant for the long-term sup­ply of cat­a­lyst for the unit.

The PDH unit will have a name­plate ca­pac­ity of 750ktpa of poly­mer grade propy­lene and is planned to be com­mis­sioned in 2023. Propy­lene from the as­set will feed INEOS’ polypropy­lene units, as well as a num­ber of other down­stream propy­lene de­riv­a­tive busi­nesses.
