An exclusive look at the grand nale of the Citadel Extravaganza 2017
Citadel Extravaganza, Mr & Miss Citadel Pune 2017, presented by Anj Kreations, in association with Sheraton Grand, Sansui and Ghanasingh Fine Jewels, indeed defined an extraordinary night! The contestants were groomed to rule the ramp by Lovell Prabhu of ELFA (event choreographer and grooming partner), Gold’s Gym (fitness partner), and Dr Ajwani’s Dental Clinic (dental care partner). A’Kreations (hair and make-up partner) enhanced the beauty of the contestants, who were clad in stunning designs by Anj Kreations (design partner). Gaurav More (photography partner) captured their beauty to the T. Envisage Events and Entertainment (event partner) and Reach Out and Inspirations (PR partners) made sure to create a buzz about the gala night! The vibrant and jocular Sachin Khurana took to the stage, along with the gorgeous Shweta Raj, the reigning Miss Commonwealth Asia Pacific, to play the perfect hosts for the evening. They briefly introduced what the stunning event had in store for the audience, followed by an introduction of the judges for the evening to the audience.
Popular faces from various arenas graced the jury panel for the evening. Among thunderous applause, the likes of Sonalee Kulkarni, Abhimanyu Singh, Anjoo Karanjia, Dr Cyrus Poonawala, Kunickaa Sadanand, Upen Patel, Shama Sikander, Saurabh Gadgil and Neetu Chandra took upon themselves the colossal task of choosing the best amongst the best. After a quick address by Nishad Shinde (Editor, Citadel) and a felicitation of the jury members, the stage was all set to rock! The atmosphere reverberated with the echoes of He Ganaraya as the city-based dance troupe Smash, choreographed by Shivam Jadhav, took the centre stage and gave an energetic performance, with bass intermingling with the devotional hues. The ode to the Elephant God was the perfect start to the evening! After the opening performance, the audience got a glimpse of all the prior hard work that went into the making of the marvellous night with an audio-visual clip. All of the meticulousness that not only by the contestants, but also by the grooming team, put into the prep was appreciated well. Following this, the finalists made an appearance on stage, clad in
traditional yet chic ethnic wear by Anj Kreations. Displaying finesse, they astonished the jury with their bewitching appearances. The contestants exuded a sense of royalty from head to toe! Carrying off the sherwanis with an aura of supreme virility, the men all looked snappy. The ladies followed, in all their glittering glory. Personifying feminine grace, the damsels carried off the old-world charm like nobody’s business! Working round the clock, the taskmasters did a very commendable job indeed! Fashion choreographer Lovell Prabhu trained the contestants to perfection, while A’Kreations made sure that the contestants’ hair and make-up game was on point! It was now time to establish their dancing skills, acquired through long practice sessions by Shivam Jadhav. With utmost co-ordination and grace, the finalists shook a leg to the beats of Boyfriend banale, a peppy dance number
from the recent film, Mubarakan. The audience, too, were seen swaying to the tunes. After the performance, the contestants took on themselves to own the stage with a ramp walk as the judges and the audience had a look at the confidence that was enunciated by them. The background music, too, complemented them perfectly, with hip-hop playing for the lads and a powerful hymn, celebrating female power, for the maidens. The judges marked them for their ramp presence, their attitude, and their ability to carry the elaborate costumes and accessories with style.
It was now time to confer the Citadel Honours, given every year to eloquent names that have made a noteworthy contribution to various arenas. Anirudh Dhoot (Director, Videocon) and Nari Hira (Chairman, Magna Publishing Co Ltd) took to the stage to present the honours to the exemplary Puneties. Saurabh Gadgil was awarded for his achievements in business, having expanded PNG Jewellers, a local name, to global frontiers. The second honour was presented to Asma Gulzar for her notable contribution to the field of fashion. She recited an encouraging sher, motivating the listeners to achieve success in their lives. The third in line to receive the honour was Reshma Saraf. A perfectionist fashion designer and a diva, Reshma citied this to be a very proud moment. Kamlesh Hemdev of Ghanasingh Fine Jewels was also honoured for his long term and promising association with Citadel. Next, Arshin Mehta, former Miss Citadel Pune contestant, came on stage in a red-hot dress to speak about how the platform paved a way to her debut as an actress in the upcoming film, Rally. Citadel has completed 27 years of excellence! In order to celebrate the magazine’s success, a short audio-visual clip glancing through the glorious journey was shown to the audience. Citadel has always been a platform to showcase the best of Pune, an attribute that received accolades from the audience.
The anticipation was soaring, as it was now time for the final round. There was tension all around as this was set to be an elimination round for the contestants. But none of it reflected on their faces as they carried the sophisticated western wear with utmost flamboyance. The boys, clad in spruce tuxedos, had an aura of manliness and a rough and tough attitude, while the ladies looked like real-life princesses in their intricate evening gowns. The sparkle of the jewellery flaunted by the beauties was not one to be missed. The beautiful and unique designs by Ghanasingh Fine Jewels made sure to add a silver lining to the already alluring female finalists. The glittering earrings and the elaborate neckpieces were surely grabbing many an eyeball! The distinctive feature of the Extravaganza was the opportunity given to the participants to have a word with the judges. So, it was not just the final four contestants answering the jury, but also the other way round! The wit and spontaneity of the participants left the audience in splits. Also, the success mantras of the judges were revealed. A finalist, who was asked, “What is the most beautiful thing to touch?” replied, “A human heart,” thus winning everyone’s hearts instantly. With this and more such amusing responses by the finalists, the selection of the winner of the title was indeed becoming a herculean task for the judges! Clearly, the competition had now become a cutthroat one.
As the jury panel got busy in evaluating the finalists to handpick the number one, the mood was lightened by the fiery performance on Malhari, a popular song from the cult classic period drama Bajirao Mastani. The stage resounded to the tapping of feet of Shivam Jadhav and the Smash troupe. The dance was zeal redefined! After the performance, the anchors gave a vote of thanks to all the sponsors, associates and partners who made the event as grand as it could have ever been. Ashok Dhamankar and Nishad Shinde handed out bouquets to the sponsors as a token of gratitude and appreciation.
The prelude to the bestowing of the titles began with the declaration of all the various sub-titles and t he runners-up. And then it was time to unveil the August issue of Citadel. Padmashree Madhur Bhandarkar and actress Kirti Kulhari, the Chief Guests of the evening, unveiled the Citadel August 2017 issue amidst loud applause. They graced the cover page of the issue. As the heartbeats were rising, it was finally the time to declare the winners of the evening. The anticipation was on an all time high as the anchors declared Rohan Sonawane and Priya Singh as winners of the Mr and Miss Citadel Pune 2017 titles, amidst thunderous applause and cheering. Pune had finally got its reigning Mr and Miss Citadel Pune for the year. The glamorous saga concluded with dinner and cocktails. The evening was surely one of its kind, and will be making a buzz for years to come!
