PCMC Postpones Medical College Launch Next Year

Citadel - - FLASHBACK -

Starting the postgraduate medical college attached to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is not possible for the civic body this year. It has failed to complete the formalities required to start the college. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has sanctioned 44 postgraduate seats for the proposed college, which is likely to begin from the next academic year. Ten specialisations will be taught in the college. The civic body has already initiated the process for hiring the staff for the college. The PCMC has started interviews for recruiting doctors as faculty for the institute on a contract basis after the end of the election code of conduct. Earlier, the civic body had obtained permits and approvals to start the institute. However, it failed to kick off due to the lack of the exemption certificate under section 8(1A) of the MCI Post Graduate Medical education Regulations, 2000. Dr Pardeshi had initiated the idea to start the college, jointly with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, in 2012.
