HRD Min­istry To Mull Ac­cred­i­ta­tion For Schools

Ac­cred­i­ta­tion for gov­ern­ment schools like col­leges have is be­ing con­sid­ered, Hu­man Re­source and De­vel­op­ment (HRD) Min­is­ter Prakash Javadekar said last month. He was speak­ing at the 8th Bharatiya Cha­tra Sansad of MIT World Peace Univer­sity. At present, Na­tional As­sess­ment and Ac­cred­i­ta­tion Coun­cil as­sesses and ac­cred­its higher ed­u­ca­tion in­sti­tu­tions in In­dia. Based on the as­sess­ments, col­leges are graded. Javadekar said, “If a school does not per­form well, that school will not be ac­cred­ited and it will be shut down for not meet­ing qual­ity stan­dards. It will help in­crease qual­ity of ed­u­ca­tion in In­dia.” He also said that uni­ver­sal and good ed­u­ca­tion is the goal of the min­istry.
