The launch of trucks by Eicher for the e-commerce segment is an interesting development. It reflects on a post GST scenario where the efficiency of transport operations is fast rising, and the preference for modern, safe, efficient and clean-burning trucks is growing. The shift to higher tonnage trucks is also rising. If it will help the consignment of medicines, food or fruits to reach from one destination to another quickly enough, it may be safe to assume that the transportation sector has truly matured. To ensure respect for truck drivers it is necessary for the owner-operator model to grow manifold. Not only will it boost the CV industry, it will also improve safety as educated and skilled youths turn to the profession. Such a driver fraternity will demand better trucks and be professional in their conduct. Not only will many ill practices be curbed, the complete transport industry will transform.
