The current Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), Erich Nesselhauf, will return to Germany to take over global responsibility for manufacturing and engineering at Daimler Trucks beginning October 01, 2018. A successor to Nesselhauf would be announced soon. Expressed Hartmut Schick, Head of Daimler Trucks Asia, that Daimler established a strong footprint in India under the leadership of Nesselhauf. Joining Daimler’s India project in 2008, Nesselhauf carved out a local procurement and supply chain strategy, which gave it a big advantage in the local market and also helped it to forward its export aspirations to other Asian and African markets. If the high local content right at the start helped Daimler to target the domestic volume segment, Nesselhauf selected as well as handheld local suppliers. He also got them to supply to various Daimler locations around the world. Appointed as the Managing Director and CEO in 2014, Nesselhauf advanced production to cater to new export markets. Increasing domestic market share, the Chennai plant of Daimler came to build BharatBenz trucks and buses for local consumption, MercedesBenz buses for local consumption, MercedesBenz trucks for exports, Fuso trucks for exports, and Freightliner trucks for exports.
