Renault-Nissan Alliance eyeing Indian LCV market?

-

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is eyeing the Indian LCV market, claim industry sources. Post Nissan’s fall out with Ashok Leyland roughly two years ago, the Alliance, mention sources, is carrying out a feasibility study. The study is said to evaluate if an entry into the LCV market under the Renault Commercial brand would be viable. The Renault Commercial brand in various markets of the world, including Europe, North Africa, and Latin America, offers a wide range of panel vans and pick-up trucks. Sources drew attention to the Alliance covering over 90 per cent of the global LCV market. They said that the feasbility study would look at the way goods and people are transported in India, and if the Alliance is able to find an entry point. The Alliance could also look at the small CV platform it has in Japan for the sub-1-2 tonne SCV market. Said to be eyeing the last mile transportation space, the Alliance, as part of the feasibility study, is also expected to look if the electric CVs in its line-up would be feasible for some Indian commercial applications.
