No BSIV vehicle to be sold post April 01, 2020?
In the last week of October 2018, the Supreme Court made it clear that no Bharat Stage IV vehicle shall be sold across the country with effect from April 01, 2020, claim industry sources. Mentioned sources that a three-judge bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur expressed a need to move to cleaner fuel. With the on-set of winter leading to a sharp decline in the air quality in many regions of India, the need for measures to curb vehicular pollution has been raised by many quarters of the society. With many vehicle manufacturers claiming that BSVI vehicles will emit cleaner air than they inhale, in the run up to the BSVI emission norms, the CV industry is said to be experiencing an amount of pre-buying. Transporters, industry sources claim, are getting into a wait and watch mode as the implementation date for BSVI emission norms draws claser. With an eye on the increase in procurement cost, operating cost and if there would be enough infrastructure to support BSVI technology, which will need low sulphur fuel and high quality AdBlue, as the trucks move along the length and breath of the country. Almost all the medium and heavy-duty CVs are expected to flaunt a combination of EGR and SCR aftertreatment systems to comply with BSVI emission norms.
