The Indian auto industry produced 16,646,445 vehicles in April-September 2018, up 13.32 per cent compared to 14,690,347 vehicles produced in April-September 2017. The industry produced a total of 29,44,510 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, twowheeler­s and quadricycl­es in September 2018, up 7.97 per cent when compared to production of 27,27,188 vehicles in September 2017. In September 2018, 101,669 commercial vehicles were produced, up 40.78 per cent, when compared to the production of 72,217 units in September 2017. A total of 95,867 CVs were sold, up 24.14 per cent, compared to 77,227 units sold in September 2017. 44,042 M&HCVs were produced, up 54.62 per cent compared to 28,484 M&HCVs produced in September 2017. 39,208 M&HCVs were sold, up 25.97 per cent compared to 31,125 units sold in September 2017. 57,627 LCVs were produced, up 31.77 per cent when compared to 43,733 LCVs produced in September 2017. 56,659 LCVs were sold, up 22.90 per cent compared to 46,102 LCVs sold in September 2017. 118,456 three-wheelers were produced, up 27 per cent in comparison to 93,271 three-wheelers produced in September 2017. The industry sold 69,066 three-wheelers, up 11.65 per cent compared to 61,860 units sold in April 2017. 408 quadricycl­es were produced compared to 192 units produced the same period last year. 21 quadricycl­es were sold in the domestic market compared to a zero base in September 2017.

Exports

In April-September 2018, the auto industry exported 24,18,368 vehicles, up 24.34 per cent compared to 19,44,944 vehicles exported in the same period last year. 10,021 commercial vehicles were exported in September 2018 compared to 8,852 units exported in the same period last year, and registerin­g a growth of 13.21 per cent. Out of the total exported commercial vehicles, 4,853 M&HCVs were exported, up 27.54 per cent compared to 3,805 units exported in September 2017. 5,168 LCVs were exported, up 2.40 per cent compared to 5,047 vehicles exported in the same period last year. 48,733 three-wheelers were exported, up 39.11 per cent compared to 35,031 units exported in the same period last year. In April-September 2018, 2,908 quadricycl­es were produced, up 204.18 per cent compared to 956 units exported in the same period last year. It registered a growth of 128.13 per cent with 438 units exported in September 2018 compared to 192 units in September 2017.
