The first set of elec­tric ve­hi­cles man­u­fac­tured by Ashok Ley­land are ex­pected to roll out in Jan­uary 2019. These, state in­dus­try sources, will roll out of a new elec­tric ve­hi­cle plant of the com­pany in Chen­nai. The first batch of ve­hi­cles would be sup­plied to the state of Gu­jarat in Jan­uary 2019. These would ply dur­ing the ‘Vi­brant Gu­jarat’ sum­mit in Jan­uary 2019. With the Andhra Pradesh plant of the com­pany al­most com­pete, Ashok Ley­land could look at as­sem­bling elec­tric buses among var­i­ous other types of buses there. The plant can as­sem­ble di­verse bus types, in­clud­ing elec­tric ve­hi­cles. Stat­ing that the com­pany has put out a record per­for­mance in terms of post­ing sales, EBITDA and net profit, Vinod K. Dasari, MD & CEO, Ashok Ley­land, said that the com­pany has in­vested heav­ily in the Light Com­mer­cial Ve­hi­cle (LCV) seg­ment. Apart from pro­duc­ing next gen­er­a­tion LCVs, the com­pany, ac­cord­ing to Dasari, is do­ing well in the area of de­fence ve­hi­cles. With high steel prices and ris­ing in­puts costs a chal­lenge, the com­pany, said Dasari, has been in­creas­ing prices.
