Ashok Leyland EVs
The first set of electric vehicles manufactured by Ashok Leyland are expected to roll out in January 2019. These, state industry sources, will roll out of a new electric vehicle plant of the company in Chennai. The first batch of vehicles would be supplied to the state of Gujarat in January 2019. These would ply during the ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ summit in January 2019. With the Andhra Pradesh plant of the company almost compete, Ashok Leyland could look at assembling electric buses among various other types of buses there. The plant can assemble diverse bus types, including electric vehicles. Stating that the company has put out a record performance in terms of posting sales, EBITDA and net profit, Vinod K. Dasari, MD & CEO, Ashok Leyland, said that the company has invested heavily in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment. Apart from producing next generation LCVs, the company, according to Dasari, is doing well in the area of defence vehicles. With high steel prices and rising inputs costs a challenge, the company, said Dasari, has been increasing prices.
