John Deere reiterated its commitment to farmers with the launch of its smallest tractor, the 3028 EN. Aimed at orchard and paddy farming, the 3028 EN is a fourwheel drive tractor that marks John Deere’s 20th anniversary in India. Technologically advanced, according to Satish Nadiger, Managing Director, John Deere, the tractor is powered by a 28 hp, three-cylinder diesel engine. Reflecting the agri-equipment manufacturer’s commitment to the Indian market, the tractor has a PTO drive for heavy-duty operations, eight forward and eight reverse gears, a uniquely positioned low muffler to facilitate the use of implements like rotary-tiller, cultivator and sprayer, making it suitable for diverse operations. Adding to the existing range of tractors the company makes in India, the 3028 EN follows the John Deere tradition of introducing advanced product features like power steering, oil immersed disc brakes, planetary reduction, force feed lubrication and high torque. Producing tractors in India since 2000, the company, according to Nadiger, has partnered with crop value chain partners for a holistic farm solution. Introducing important safety features like rollover protection and seat belts, which have come to be immensely valued by farmers, the company is focusing on bringing new technologies to tractors and farm equipment with the view of lowering the cost of farm operations, and to eliminate redundant operations. Making significant investments in India over its 20 years of presence in the market, including tractor manufacturing plants at Pune, Dewas and Sirhind, besides an electronics system manufacturing unit, John Deere has also invested in an engineering and technology centre at Pune. The engineering centre is responsible for Deere’s worldwide design and innovation in utility tractors. With the acquisition of Wirtgen Group in 2017 the world over, John Deere is looking at strengthening its presence in India.
