Honda subsidiary for battery swapping
Honda Global is acting on battery swapping as a solution aimed at e-rickshaws. The company hopes to commence services in the first half of 2022. It will deploy the Honda Mobile Power Pack expected to address major challenges like short range, long charging time and high cost of batteries. It will make use of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can store a considerable quantity of energy, more than 1.3kWh, which is an improvement over the previous MPP version and has a charging time of approximately five hours. The company will establish a local subsidiary company in India for the business. It is claimed to have collaborated with electric three-wheeler manufacturers to launch and pilot the service in a few cities ahead of a Pan India launch. Commenting on the setup, Minoru Kato, Chief Officer, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said, “Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) has huge potential to electrify all kinds of devices including small-sized mobility products and expand the use of renewable energy.”
