India’s First Semiconductor Fab In Karnataka
International semiconductor consortium, ISMC is all geared up to set up India’s first semiconductor fab plant in Karnataka. Involving an investment of around Rs. 22,900 crores (USD 3 billion), the new plant, it is said, will provide 1500 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs. As per the reports, the Government of Karnataka has suggested Electronics and Systems Design cluster in Mysuru as the location for setting up the fabrication unit. Although Dholera SIR in Gujarat was considered as an option, Karnataka was opted due to the water availability and additional incentives offered by the state. ISMC will be availing benefits offered by the Union Government. The Government of India(GoI) introduced a new incentive scheme worth Rs.76,000 crore (nearly USD 10.2 billion) in a bid to boost the semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
