Comparative Variables [Inputs Taken from Service Providers]
While most of the parameters on which we compared the services are self-explanatory, here are a few lines—just in case.
Fleet size
This is an important variable as customer service largely depends on availability of cab when the customer calls for booking.
Age of fleet
Newer fleet not only saves the cost of maintenance but also pleases the customer. One would not enjoy a ride in a dilapidated old cab.
Most of the service providers have cabs not older than three years and constantly upgrade their vehicles to ensure uninterrupted service.
Booking options
The more the options, the better it is for both consumer and service provider. The options made available to passengers include bookings on phone via their call centre and online bookings via their website and through a mobile app. The last option has caught the fancy of young professionals carrying smartphones.
Meru Cab, Meru Plus, Ola Cabs, Mega Cabs and Genie Cabs do not have any booking app as yet.
Standard charges (booking, waiting and cancellation)
What customers pay for waiting, pickup and cancellation does matter and almost all cab service providers have minimum charges for the same.
Average response time to reach pickup point
This is an important variable and the starting of the point of contact with the client. Each cab service vies with the other to better the response time, which gets repeat business if the client is happy about not having to wait longer.
Women drivers
All cab services do not provide this facility. Women clients often feel safe if women drivers report for pickup.
Fire safety systems
Some of the cab services provide GPS/GPRS and fire extinguishers, while some others provide fire
alarm and speed alarm, thereby making this variable an important factor.
Night travel charges
This is an important variable as night services mostly come with an additional cost to client. Considering the safety of passengers, availability between 11 pm and 5 am counts the most, never mind the extra charges levied.
