BIS Standard
In 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) revised the standards for lead in paints from 1,000 ppm to 90 ppm. Some small paint manufacturers promised to adhere to the newly revised standards. However, the said change does not reflect in the current study, where mostly SME paint samples were analysed. One reason may be that the BIS standards are voluntary in nature, which means that the paint manufacturers are under no compulsion to adhere to them.
