Antibacterial performance tests – specifically for antibacterial activity, ‘zone of inhibition’ and bacterial ‘rate of kill’ efficacy on contact – were carried out to judge the effectiveness of the liquid hand wash in removing bacteria. i) Antibacterial activity is determined by comparing the effectiveness of antibacterial chemicals present in a certain quantity of liquid hand wash with specified maximum inhibition concentration. Besides, reduction in survivors of germicide determined in terms of ii) zone of inhibition of bacterial growth as well as iii) rate of kill against a specific organism is analysed for judging effectiveness. Zone of inhibition testing is a means to measure the ability of an antimicrobial agent to inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
