VOICE OUTREACH
Consumer VOICE organised Kisan Goshthi as part of Green Action Week for the farmers of village Bankner, Narela, Delhi, on 23 September 2016, with support from Consumers International and Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). The aim of this ‘Meet for Farmers’ was to address queries on present farming problems, engage in in-depth discussions on organic farming, and brainstorm on ways to reduce dependence on traditional methods of farming.
Also, as part of the project, another workshop was organised on the 25th of the same month with women/household members of farmers’ families, focusing on educating them about the perils associated with hazardous usage of pesticides, how to take small steps in adopting organic farming such as kitchen gardens, sales value of product, and encouraging them to adopt sustainable consumption practices. Farmers were given eco-friendly jute bags and informative pamphlets containing information on organic farming and ill effects of pesticides on environment and soil.
