Con­sumer VOICE or­gan­ised Kisan Goshthi as part of Green Ac­tion Week for the farm­ers of vil­lage Bankner, Narela, Delhi, on 23 Septem­ber 2016, with sup­port from Con­sumers In­ter­na­tional and Swedish So­ci­ety for Na­ture Con­ser­va­tion (SSNC). The aim of this ‘Meet for Farm­ers’ was to ad­dress queries on present farm­ing prob­lems, en­gage in in-depth dis­cus­sions on or­ganic farm­ing, and brain­storm on ways to re­duce de­pen­dence on tra­di­tional meth­ods of farm­ing.

Also, as part of the project, an­other work­shop was or­gan­ised on the 25th of the same month with women/house­hold mem­bers of farm­ers’ fam­i­lies, fo­cus­ing on ed­u­cat­ing them about the per­ils as­so­ci­ated with haz­ardous us­age of pes­ti­cides, how to take small steps in adopt­ing or­ganic farm­ing such as kitchen gar­dens, sales value of prod­uct, and en­cour­ag­ing them to adopt sus­tain­able con­sump­tion prac­tices. Farm­ers were given eco-friendly jute bags and in­for­ma­tive pam­phlets con­tain­ing in­for­ma­tion on or­ganic farm­ing and ill ef­fects of pes­ti­cides on en­vi­ron­ment and soil.
