Marking /Labelling As per FSS Regulations and Legal Metrology Rules, the following information shall be marked on the product label: a) Name of the product b) Name and address of manufacturer c) Batch number d) Date or month of manufacture e) Net weight of the contents (in gram or kilogram) f) List of ingredients g) FSSAI license number h) Vegetarian mark (green dot) i) MRP (in Rs) j) The words ‘Best before’ (month and year to be indicated) k) Instructions for storage and use l) Nutritional information m) Customer-care details Cremica had not mentioned net weight. All other brands had provided the required information.
Packaging plays an important role in maintaining consistent quality of the product. Among the brands we tested, seven – Maggi, Kissan, Delmonte, Reliance Select, Patanjali, Tops and Mum’s – are in glass bottle. Heinz, Weikfield and Cremica are in tamperproof, non-breakable plastic bottle. Tasty Treat and Tasty Wonders are in poly pouch.
