Marking /Labelling As per FSS Regulation­s and Legal Metrology Rules, the following informatio­n shall be marked on the product label: a) Name of the product b) Name and address of manufactur­er c) Batch number d) Date or month of manufactur­e e) Net weight of the contents (in gram or kilogram) f) List of ingredient­s g) FSSAI license number h) Vegetarian mark (green dot) i) MRP (in Rs) j) The words ‘Best before’ (month and year to be indicated) k) Instructio­ns for storage and use l) Nutritiona­l informatio­n m) Customer-care details Cremica had not mentioned net weight. All other brands had provided the required informatio­n.

Packaging plays an important role in maintainin­g consistent quality of the product. Among the brands we tested, seven – Maggi, Kissan, Delmonte, Reliance Select, Patanjali, Tops and Mum’s – are in glass bottle. Heinz, Weikfield and Cremica are in tamperproo­f, non-breakable plastic bottle. Tasty Treat and Tasty Wonders are in poly pouch.
