To mark World No Tobacco Day (WNTD),
state partners supported by Consumer Voice organised various workshops at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Chandigarh (Haryana), Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Rajkot (Gujarat) and Guwahati (Assam). The main objective was to spread awareness about the ill effects of tobacco and how the government and the public have to play their roles in the present scenario. Consumer activists, social activists, medical practitioners, civil society organisations, and activists working in the field of tobacco control were among those who participated in the workshops. They expressed their views and urged the government to make stringent laws and ensure effective implementation of existing and new laws. They also demanded that tobacco products be put in the highest category of taxation.
