Food’s Carbon Footprint

The amount of greenhouse gases emitted in the environmen­t during production, processing and disposal of a food product is denoted as that product’s carbon footprint. The ways in which a food product is grown/reared, farmed, processed, transporte­d, stored, cooked and disposed of plays a significan­t role in deciding this figure. The unit in which it is expressed is kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent.
