Food’s Car­bon Foot­print

The amount of green­house gases emit­ted in the en­vi­ron­ment dur­ing pro­duc­tion, pro­cess­ing and dis­posal of a food prod­uct is de­noted as that prod­uct’s car­bon foot­print. The ways in which a food prod­uct is grown/reared, farmed, pro­cessed, trans­ported, stored, cooked and dis­posed of plays a sig­nif­i­cant role in de­cid­ing this fig­ure. The unit in which it is ex­pressed is kilo­grams of car­bon diox­ide equiv­a­lent.
