Beauty & the Wardrobe!
Introduce your make-up bag to your outfit—it’s time to make a style statement (as tested by three Cosmo girls)!
Smile Bright... ...and repeat on your feet
“People think they need confidence to wear bright colours on their lips,” says lipstick queen Poppy King, “but, in fact, it’s the colour that makes you confident.” Orange is the shade this season and if you add your shoes to the mix, you’ll deliver extra statement. “People always notice interesting shoes,” says UK-based stylist Grace Woodward. So match your sneakers to your smile for some eye-catching colour consistency.
Dare to Bare... ... and go big with your hair
Flaunting your cleavage can be a daunting prospect, but why shouldn’t you shake what momma gave you? Stylist Mariel Haen has dressed the likes of Rihanna and believes that if you’ve got it, flaunt it! “Accentuate your cleavage, but make sure you’re not showing too much skin elsewhere,” she advises. Big, sexy hair will act as another focus for wandering eyes, and hairstylist Kevin Ford recommends using medium-sized tongs, setting each curl with a pin until it cools, then backcombing at the roots. Our essential big-hair tools are a sturdy backcombing brush and Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray by TIGI, ` 850.
Go Girly... ...and balance with boho
When experimenting with feminine, floaty numbers, there’s a fine line between casual chic and family wedding. “Leather will make something saccharine, like a ruffled blouse, instantly more ‘fashion’,” advises Grace. You can also go boho with your beauty to balance things out. Hairstylist Malcolm Edwards describes this season’s plait as, “The type you do when you fiddle with your hair while talking to friends.” Give it some unkempt texture using a salt spray (like Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray, ` 525) and complement with bronzed boho eyes from lashline to brow. Make Up For Ever La Bohème Eye Shadow Palette, ` 2,200, gives lids a gorgeous metallic sheen.
