BACKGROUND Dataquest compiled the Thirteenth Dataquest-CMR survey scorecard on the best T-Schools in the country on the basis of a methodology and calculations vetted by research firm CMR. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE The aim of this survey was to determine the top Technology Schools (B.E, B. Tech or similar level graduate technical course) in the country and rank them on a list of important parameters. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY he Dataquest-CMR survey was done in two phases. PHASE I – DESK RESEARCH In this phase, the CMR team did an exhaustive desk research so as to identify the list of all Tech Schools in the country, who were invited to be a part of the survey. Lists of Govt. institutes and private institutes were prepared separately. The colleges established post 2011 or not offering a B.E, B. Tech or similar level graduate technical courses were removed from the list. PHASE II – PRIMARY RESEARCH The Tech Schools short-listed in Phase 1 were approached by CMR team. For the Tech Schools both email responses and face-to-face interviews with the college representative (preferably the placement

coordinator) were considered. The information collected was on four broad heads: placement, academic environment, infrastructure and industry interface. These broad parameters constituted various sub-parameters as mentioned below.

PLACEMENT

% of students got placed Number of companies visiting Maximum Salary Average Salary – All Companies

ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT

Number of students in B.E/B.Tech adding all years Number of specializations offered Total number of students in M.Tech / M. S / M. Phil in engineering Total number of PhD. Students / Doctorates Total number of faculty % of Permanent faculty Faculty Qualification Index Faculty Experience Index Number of books published Number of research publications Number of patents / copyrights NBA Accreditation NAAC Accreditation

INFRASTRUCTURE

Campus area in acres Number of books in library Number of books added in last 3 years Number of national / international journals in library Number of journals added in last 3 years Number of classroom Is the campus Wi-Fi Enabled % of students accommodated in hostel Number of faculty cabin Number of auditoriums Number of systems provided

INDUSTRY INTERFACE

Number of MoU with industry e.g. CISCO / Microsoft / IBM Incubation center Number of startups that originated from the incubation centre Have a lab which is sponsored by industry

THE RANKING

The ranking of the institutes were done separately for Govt. and Private. The weights were pre-determined by CMR based on the experience of conducting such study for last 13 years.

ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY

All the absolute data collected under each module were normalized and converted to relative data to evaluate the relative distance among the institutes across different parameters. After normalization, the data had been multiplied with respective weights of each parameter and then the total objective score was calculated for each module. The whole data was then arranged in descending order in Govt. and Private category. And finally we got the top institutes across India in both Govt. and Private category.

VALIDATION PROCESS

CMR research team did all the data validation exercise. We had asked for few documents from the institutes like list of companies visited in the campus, number of students recruited by each one of them and the salary offered to the students, placement brochure, institute prospectus, companies for whom consulting / industrial assignment has been done, name of journal where research paper has been published and official copy of semester results. Apart from these we had also validated the data from secondary sources like Institute’s website.
