COP MISBEHAVES WITH WOMAN, PROBE ORDERED
The assistant commissioner of police (east), Ms Geeta Devi, began probe on Thursday into allegations that the Payakapuram circle inspector Rambabu sexually harassed a married woman, who went to the police station seeking help to resolve family disputes. The police commissioner, Mr N. Madhusudan Reddy, asked the east ACP to visit the police station and conduct a detailed probe into the charges leveled against the circle inspector.
A married woman, Anjali Kumari, who is a resident of Santhi Nagar in Payakapuram colony, had been facing domestic harassment from husband Bhupati Neelakantham and in-laws.
Bhupati and Anjali Kumari had a love marriage in August 2011. The marriage was against the wishes of his family.
Anjali Kumari has alleged that her husband, sister-inlaw and other family members physically tortured her and even tried to kill her as they were not happy with the marriage.
Following family problems, Anjali went to the Payakapuram police station on March 22. The police arrested her husband, but did not arrest other family members. Anjali expressed apprehensions that there was a threat to her life from her in-laws and she needed police protection.
However, Anjali alleged that circle inspector Rambabu started sexually harassing her. Two constables mediated in the affair, she said.
She met police commissioner N. Madhusudan Reddy and complained about the sexual harassment by the circle inspector.
After the preliminary inquiry, the commissioner instructed the East ACP to probe the allegations and submit a detailed report.
