The crisis in the BJP government in Karnataka on Friday further deepened with the resignation of nine ministers loyal to state party strongman B.S. Yeddyurappa as part of their campaign to oust Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.
With this, the ten-month old Gowda government was pushed to the brink. All the nine were holding key portfolios.
The nine who tendered resignation include, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Jagadsih Shettar, Public Works Department C.M. Udasi, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Agriculture minister Umesh Katti, Housing minister V.Somanna, Excise minister M.P. Renukacharya, Industries minister Murgesh Nirani, Animal Husbandry minister Revunaik Belamagi. However Chief Minister has not accepted the resignation of Energy minister Shobha Karandlaje stating that she should come in person and submit her resignation, sources said.
Ms Karandlaje is on a pilgrimage and is expected to return to Bengaluru only after first week of July.
Another minister Raju Gowda will submit his resignation on Saturday.
After accepting the resignation of eight ministers, Chief Minister told them that he would bring the issue to the notice of party high command. He promised them that he would take early decision on their resignation after consulting with central leaders.
