Fire department very short-staffed

As per Centre’s stipulatio­ns, there must be at least one fire station with required personnel and equipment for every 50,000 people. Andhra Pradesh ought to have had at least 1,348 fire stations for its population of nearly eight crore. As many as 89 Assembly constituen­ciesin Andhra Pradesh, with a population of a minimum of 3-4 lakh each, have no fire station. The fire department has had a steady headcount of personnel from 1983 — a constant 5,000, including firemen, leading firemen and Station Fire Officers.
