ILLEGAL PLOT PROBLEM STILL RAMPANT

The state has failed to reign in the owners of illegal plots. In the last six months, less than 20,000 have applied for regularisation in the GHMC area and about 15,000 in HMDA limits.

However, officials exuded confidence on Saturday that was the last day before the LRS scheme came to a close. “Since morning, a large number of plot owners have been rushing to GHMC and HMDA offices to submit applications,” said an official.

However, enquiries by this correspondent revealed there are approximately one lakh more illegal plots in GHMC and HMDA areas alone.
