ANGLO-INDIANS TO EMPOWER COMMUNITY
The Anglo-Indian community in the city on Saturday formed a nationwide ‘Confederation of Anglo-Indian Association’, a community constitution with an objective to empower the families belonging to this particular community.
The new constitution comprises of 15 members from different states. According to confederation president Ursula Fosberry, the head quarters will currently be in Bengaluru and smaller branches would be set up in other cities.
“Through this confederation we plan to provide education, scholarship and job opportunities for the needy. The body will resolve family issues and civil grievances of the AngloIndian families across the country. A marriage bureau has also been formed for the youth,” said Ms Fosberry.
The meeting also aimed at spreading awareness of the distinct Anglo culture that has blended with the other communities. Nominated MLA Christine Lazarus said, “We need more awareness and rights of our culture. I appeal to the families to make ample use of the service offered by the confederation and bring about a change in society.”
The travelling EcoNation Convention meeting was attended by community heads from states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
The next convention is scheduled to be held on August 4 and 5 in Bengaluru.
