HC: COMPENSATE VEMPENTA VICTIMS

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JUNE 30

The AP High Court has ruled that the victims of Dalit carnage in Vempenta village of Kurnool district were eligible for compensation under Rule 12(4) of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995.

While allowing a petition by Nukala Ramanamma and others, Justice G.V. Seethapathy directed the state and the Centre to consider the case of the petitioners for payment of compensation under the Act and arrange payment to them subject to their eligibility, within six weeks from the date of receipt of the order.

The petitioners approached the court after the denial of compensation by the district collector on the ground that their husbands were accused in murder of the Pamulapadu village sarpanch in 1998.
