A.I. LYING ABOUT FLIGHTS: STRIKING PILOTS
The striking Indian Pilots’ Guild (IPG) has denied civil aviation minister Ajit Singh’s repeated claim of “75 per cent of Air India’s international operations being back to normal”.
The pilots’ union is currently staging an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan and is demanding talks with the management and the civil aviation ministry.
After the strike began one month ago in May, AI claimed to be operating only 38 out of its 45 daily international flights.
However, according to IPG members, 14 out of AI’s 20 Boeing 777 aircraft are not flying currently as pilots are not available to fly them. AI uses only Boeing planes, while the erstwhile Indian Airlines operates Airbus aircraft, which are used for domestic operations.
